Rear Wheel Options
« on: October 21, 2017, 08:15:40 pm »
Anyone know of an alternate wheel that will work with the Ascot? I found a hairline fracture in the rim and would like to find something smaller and wider without having to do any major mods that will work with the driveshaft and possibly existing brake drums, though I wouldn't be opposed to switching to rear disc if that's a viable option.

Would a wheel from a CX fit?

I was under the impression - not sure why - that the VT500C (the Ascot's sister bike) used 16 inch wheel on the rear (as opposed to the Ascot's 18") and I think the rear is a bolt on to the Ascot (but have no personal experience with this or know anyone who has).

VT500 Shadow has 16" rear wheel. Different spoke pattern I believe & the differential is geared higher to make up for the shorter wheel.

Found a rear wheel off a 1986 700 Shadow that works and has the same spoke pattern. Thanks for the recommendations and suggestions.
