Post by: triguyracer on January 30, 2018, 03:30:03 pm
Any one out there who has done a wheel swap to your ft, just got finished changing tires and have to say after changing 100s my be even a thousand in all my times working for dealerships and independents for almost 50 years I have got to say ft ascot wheels are the absolute worst wheels I have ever changed tires on or worked on, almost no drop center on them. After putting tires on for the second time I am done with using the stock wheels if possible without making a major expense, any suggestions on wheels that are a easy swap and not a fortune,Yam xs 650 wheels are nice but have got harder to find,if you have made a swap using a stock dia wheel size to others please comment .I would like to know, after the second time changing tires onto the stock rims I am feed up with the junk ones Honda used

Have you ever changed the tires on Yamaha RD400 mag wheels?  :o

The only wheels that I know of that are a fairly easy swap, are the early CBR600 Hurricane wheels. They are 17" though.

Good luck

Thanks for the info ,I have read in  the posts about doing the cbr swap,I am thinking very serous about making the swap you mentioned was hoping to go with the stock sizes but am feed up with changing  tires on the stock rims when I want to try a diff tire, changed many a RD400 wheel, though not in quite a while  though, the Ascot wheels seem just particuly hard to change tires on and boy have I changed a lot of tires in my time,I will figure out something as I like my Ascot a lot and use it almost daily weather permiting even though I own several other bikes .Got new rubber and will see how well they work with the tires I have mounted.Have been watching the Dutch guys project on the site and like how he has used a cbr1000 front end if I remember right using a yam xs 650 front wheel,it looks xclnt in his post.I will keep looking on the All Ball website as they have a conversion chart for bearings and front end conversions its well worth looking at  if you have not looked at it before, there are a lot of conversions you are able to make to front ends and wheels with just a bearing swap for the most part , I was amazed at how many conversions are possible with just a change of triple trees and bearings that look to be just a bolt on,Check out there web site if you have not it is the best site I have run across for doing a front end swap

The All Balls bearings web-site link is posted here somewhere. It is very helpful. Try to locate a complete front end assembly from the hand controls down to the wheel. Trying to locate & piece together a front end usually takes a while & becomes expensive. Keep it in the Honda family if you can.

Good luck
