Title: Replacment Tank...?
Post by: Jaimo! on November 18, 2013, 08:21:05 pm
I know you can sort of put a VT500c tank on the VT500 Ascot, but does anyone know of any other tanks that may fit?  Any of the 70's-80's CB tanks?

Thanks,
Jaimo!

I doubt it. The VT's have a double tube backbone that allows the air cleaner tract to run up to the carbs. The Fuel Tank tunnel is very wide.

Keep an eye on eBay. I saw a nice looking FT Ascot tank on there last week. Don't know how often VT tanks usually pop up. I bought one new from the Honda dealer back in 1992-3.

PS: I wonder if other Honda V-Twin bikes would have the same type of under tank profile? That may be another option. Of course you could splice two tanks together if you have, or know someone that has, good fabricating skills. Use the VT tank underside & adapt another tanks outer shell to that & weld it up. Of course it would then need to be painted, unless you like the raw look. Then just strip it, sand it & clear coat it.

The Suzuki GT750 Water Buffalo tank will fit with some mods to the securing brackets. The "tunnel" is wide enough.

I would think a reasonable Water Buffalo tank would be worth a lot more on a Water Buffalo than on an Ascot no?  I think they're pretty sought after (at least they are around here).

Maybe so. You can see what it looks like here:
