Hi, i have reasently bought a Vt500C to make a scrambler type of bike. Wil start with the fuel tank - seat - handlebars first. Dos the Ft parts fit on Vt frame as it seems to be the same atacments / underside.
I was also looking on a XJ550 tank, as it is a littel curved on the underside to fit the engine.

The Shadow frame is a bit different than the Ascot frame.

Hi J, yes there seems to be a few parts to be modified. But if i weld on a new top rail on the frame, this room wil be perfect to hide all the elektrical stuff in. And put in a smaler litium - ion battery.
For the filter housing i was thinking of cutting a part of the one ( make a sort of a cover) under the thank, place a part of the filter in there. Hold in place of a rubber spring.
I wil pic her up end of the week, then i start taking off all the C parts i dont need and swap / sell to finance my build.

Got it home today and started removing all those " bling" parts, hope to sell some of it to finance the other parts. A ascot rear wheel is also on the way. The first thing i need to replace is the tires was cracked on the side walls so i can still use it uder the modification work.
I am also looking into improving the orginal brakes, seems a Vt600 / 750 single disk wil fit, then you have a ventilated modern disk 296mm 5 bolt at 144 / 72 mm
A radial master vil also help. To shorten the brake line / better responce i wil look into BMWs system running trough the stearing stem ( winter work )
Is the rear shocks of the same lenght, mine is 34,5cm between upper and lower bolt ( middle)

First modification done, relocation of the horn. Removed the plastic cover, metall support and one horn. The plastic radiator gard is also gone. Next vil be to lower the front light with some new adaptors.

A possible relocation of the horn is also behind the radiator at a later stage. Even better space if the coils can find a better position.

This is the new brake disk i have orded, i have not got any respons on the measurments but hopfully it is a bolt on modification.

Ascot tank has arrived, same with the rear wheel. Not mutch difference to the C tank, more square and slimmer at the back.

Hmmm... That tank looks familiar. I think it may have spent some time in my garage for a while. :D

Hi J, did you put som protecting / tank sealer in it. It is quite darkbrown inside but no rust seems to be a cind of sealer. While i whait on permission to start the build ( yes we have to ask in norway) i have bougt a new scambler type bar ( or it may be caled texas / western bar?) it gave mutch more feeling / control on the bike.

I'm not certain that is the spare tank that I once owned & sold a few years back. Kind of looks like it from what I recall though.
I never did anything with it. Can't even remember how it came to me at this point.

first test of the ascot tank and the FT seat. The only noatble problem with the tank fitment came in the peacock erea. A clamp for the ignition cables is to far out, bad welding, had to grind it down. I have to modifie the seat pan in some ereas, on the positive side it is wider and wil cover the frame rails rather beeing on top of them.

Wow, the seat & tank make it look completely different, I never cared for sissy bar type seats. At 1st glace(the pic with the FT seat & VTtank) I thought I was looking at a VT Ascot! Looking forward to this & good luck, Lefty.
