Howdy FT'ers, having a hard time finding a pinion assm, however this one on auction, an 82 CB250rs ATM.
Looks very similar. No way to check the demensions, but thinking it may be worth the gamble at around $100.
Any thoughts would be welcome.
Cheers

Hey Neil, I checked the cross reference for the pinion assembly, and it was only used on the FT. Out of curiosity, I checked the parts list for the '82 250 ATC, and it doesn't have an electric starter at all. Not sure if I was looking at the right model 250? The pictures do look like an FT assembly, going from memory. It wouldn't be the first time a seller misidentified parts. ;)

Thanks Scottly, heres the model its from;

If anythings useable, maybe the CB250rs model wasnt so hard on starters, being only a 250cc, pehaps there may be a parts stock ...

I found parts listings for the 250rs; evidently they were not sold in the USA? The part numbers do not match for either the shaft nor the pinion gear assemblies, at least for the UK model 250rs.

Many thanks, quite right. yes they were similar... but thats it. ::)
However, I did pick up a 400 motor with a good starter & pinion gear, & chain tensioner which seems to be all I need from that motor ATM.
Found the piston siezed in the original motor, but the piston cleaned up ok, and honed the bore and looks good.
Questions;
There's a partial gasket set available here, which is minus the clutch cover gasket.
Would the 82 XL500 clutch cover gasket fit?
Is there a complete gasket set available anywhere?
Thanks for your support, appreciate it, Neil

I checked the part numbers for the "right crankcase cover gasket", and they don't match. However, I looked at my '82 XR 500 motor, which uses the same gasket as the XL 500, as well as some XL/XR 250s, and I can't see any external difference in the cover of my FT? I would bet a cyber-beer the XL/XR gasket would work. ;D

Cheers, I owe you beer ;D, put together a set for $32 total with the XL250s gasket.
Blasting the barrels & head / paint today, so looking forward to starting this bad boy sometime next week.
Many thanks
